Zeavola Resort setting standards with Phi Phi Island Cleaning Project

Until a few years ago Phi Phi Islands were the best kept secret of Andaman sea. A tropical paradise with fine white sandy beaches and breathtaking rock formations rising from the clear turquoise water. However, with the ever-increasing number of tourists that visit the beautiful islands, there is an inevitable risk of threatening the fragile ecosystem of this fantastic natural wonder of Phi Phi Islands.
Thanks to Zeavola Resort and its staff, help is at hand. Zeavola Resort plana regular beach cleanup programs for surrounding beaches and underwater reefs.
On 8th October 2006 Zeavola Resort organized a cleanup of Mosquito Island beach and underwater coral reef, as part of the "International Cleanup Day 2006 Splash for Trash Asia Pacific".
The result of the clean-up was amazing, with approximately 300kg of rubbish on land and 50kg underwater: mostly plastic bottles, glass and fishing nets and cages. A report was sent to PADI's Project AWARE who recoreded the clean-up, and we were listed on http://www.projectaware.org/asiapac/english/activities/list.asp.
To keep the beautiful Islands of Phi Phi clean is an ongoing effort. Zeavola Resort regularly maintains this by changing the location of the clean-up each time, from an uninhabited island like Mosquito Island to a calm quiet bay like Nui Bay on Phi Phi Don Island. Zeavola Resort encourages their guests to join in and help out with this environmentally-friendly kind of activity to keep the Phi Phi Island a tropical paradise for our future visitors.
